NLP is the Key to Kicking Bad Habits

 

It seems normal for people to be constantly trying and failing to improve their lives. Virtually everyone has a history of failed New Year’s Resolutions, diet or workout plans. However, some bad habits reach as far as our deepest relationships or work life. Point is, if you look closely enough, there are probably stubborn bad habits wrecking havoc all over your life. Thankfully, there is an answer to this common problem.

 

Many neurologists describe neuro-linguistic programming as forming a connection with the unconscious mind, and understanding how to better utilize it in life and success. A common practice for life coaches, NLP helps many clients break bad habits and reach certain attainable goals.

 

Many habits, good or bad, form when people unconsciously set goals we may or may not want to reach. These goals range from small things like finishing a plate of food, to deeper more meaningful life goals like being closer to your family. NLP is the tool that helps us understand and dictate which goals we actually want to pursue, and which ones are holding us back.

 

Because negative emotions and limiting behaviors tend to affect our unconscious habit making, many habits that humans develop are negative. Some of our most stubborn habits begin at adolescence, when our mind is less educated about the real world and more prone to negative association.

 

A simple example of this idea is the common, yet somewhat unnecessary fear of spiders. This phobia does not serve us in our adult stage of growth, yet it is still there because of habit. NLP can be used by a professional to “unlearn” that phobia so that we can become more funcional if say a spider gets into the hose and you have to remove it. This simple principle can be applied to virtually all bad habits.

 

NLP can improve anxiety, depression, tic disorders, some phobias, and even learning disorders like dyslexia. This practice is often used on people who have not taken well to traditional medical cures.

 

Although NLP is not a mainstream medical practice, many hypnotherapists, life coaches, and spiritual leaders have adopted NLP as a means to reach a higher level of understanding for their clients, because of its many benefits reach a plethora of conditions or disorders that have otherwise ineffective treatments.

Some NLP techniques include: framing conflict as collaboration, a common way life coaches teach clients to mend broken relationships, Stepping Up, establishing a larger goal within a smaller goal, and proposing hypothetical situations, which helps the client see the potential of a fulfilled life goal. Some methods include identifying how we sabotage ourselves in our life, or Self Sabotage.

 

These tactics are a few from a long list of ways NLP helps to improve cognitive function that will specifically lead to success. The best thing about these techniques is that they are open to everyone, no matter how much money they have to throw at a therapist.

 

NLP can also lead to a more clear mindset and brain development that can pave the way for a future that is geared for the individual and their aspirations.
