10 Tips to Staying Sane During Lockdown

It feels like we’ve been in this lockdown forever — because we basically have been. If you haven’t lost your mind already, we’re here to give you some tips to help you stay sane while you’re hunkered down:

  1. Don’t Spend Too Much Time on Social Media

While it can be really tempting to spend hours scrolling through your phone to cure your never-ending boredom, The Royal Society for Public Health warns that the overuse of social media can negatively impact your mental health. Establish a timeframe that feels comfortable for you and watch the amount of time you spend on your phone — most phones have features that will inform you of time spent on social media!

  1. Take a Daily Walk

Even if the weather is a little gloomy, it’s always a good idea to go outside when you’re stuck inside for most of the day. You can enjoy a change of scenery while your lungs enjoy some fresh air!

  1. Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking water will actually help you stay sane while you’re in lockdown because water regulates the body. According to Healthline, water intake can significantly impact your brain’s function and energy levels. So drink up, ladies and gents!

  1. Get Yourself a Self-Care Box

Why not treat yourself to a little self-care while you’re spending so much time alone? This adorable letterbox from Box Sized Hugs has everything you need to create a little spa day at home: coconut bath dust, a hair mask, an eye mask, and bath salts. Practicing self-care really makes all the difference when it comes to your mental health.

  1. Find a New Hobby

Chances are that you’ve never had this much time to spare before, so why not find a new hobby? Take a moment to ask yourself if there’s anything you’ve always wanted to try — and then try it! Now is as good of a time as any.

  1. Try Fun Workouts From Home

Since all of the gyms are closed down, there’s not many workout options available that don’t involve working out at home. You could actually have a lot of fun with exercising at-home because there are thousands of online videos that offer unique workouts. You could take a Zumba class in the comfort of your living room in your underwear — and no one will ever know!

  1. Cook Different Recipes

As much as we may want to order takeout or delivery services for every meal, it’s simply not practical. Skip your usual go-to meals and try a new recipe that looks delicious! Play some music, enjoy a glass of wine, and take the time to mindfully enjoy the cooking process.

  1. Journal

We’re all experiencing a very turbulent time right now. Journaling is a really healthy way to express yourself — getting all of your thoughts out on paper feels therapeutic.

  1. Have a Dance Party

I regret having a dance party, said no one ever. When all else fails, put on your favourite song and dance like nobody’s watching!

  1. Get an Adequate Amount of Sleep

While getting too little sleep may not be an issue for you at the moment, you may be oversleeping while in lockdown. It can actually be just as harmful to sleep too much as it is to sleep too little. Try to keep yourself on a sleep schedule that works for you.
