4 Reasons Why You Should Learn Computer Programming

“Everybody should learn to program a computer, because it teaches you how to think” – Steve Jobs.

Learning how to program can be a daunting task. When you just start out it can become overwhelming quite fast. But if you push through it, it can be enormously rewarding.

Here are 3 reasons why you should learn how to programming

  1. Programming teaches you perseverance

Programming comes down to problem solving. And most of the time, when you’ve solved a problem another problem pops up. This can be frustrating at times, but it will also teach you the power of perseverance.

There is no greater feeling than the feeling of finally having solved a complex problem and seeing the program running on your screen.

For example, when I was building screenshotapi.net tons of problems occured, but with perseverance I pushed through them, and I’m so happy with the end result.

  1. You can create anything you want

How cool would it be if you can create websites, apps and software. When you can program you can create anything you want.

Want to create a new website for you startup idea? If you can program it yourself it will save you a lot of money by not having to hire a programmer to do the job for you.

Plus in my personal experience it is way more rewarding to see the end result when you’ve built it yourself. R programming is also something new and easy with which students have started learning basic coding. Colleges are also introducing R programming for most courses, but for someone who hasn’t done programming ever, students seek R programming help online.

  1. It’s easy to find a job

Computer programmers can easily find a job. This depends on your location, but in my experience computer programmers are needed in almost any country.

And most of the time, when you have a job, you will have good job security. Firing you and hiring a replacement is a lot of headache for the manager. It would mean having to find another programmer – which are hard to find – and before the new programmer knows their way around the systems weeks will pass.

So, if it’s job security you want, you should definitely learn computer programming.

  1. High salaries

The average computer programer’s starting salary is high, and if you specialize in a certain aspect you can earn a lot of money.

According to glassdoor the starting salary of computer programmers in San Francisco is $72k per year. That is more than enough money to live a comfortable lifestyle!

Anyone can do it

There are tons of courses, bootcamps and books out there that teaches people how to program. The great thing about computer programming is that you can learn it by yourself, all you need is a computer.

If you want to build something for yourself you can study anything you want. But, if you want to find a job with your new computer programming skills it would be wise to check out local job boards. There you can see which programming skills are in high demand and pick out one of those to learn.

Remember, learning how to program is a tough journery but it has great rewards.

Good luck with learning how to program!
