Clearing out: These are the most popular methods

Regardless of whether it’s the basement, the attic, an apartment, or an entire house, there are basically two different ways to go about decluttering.

It always depends on the individual personality which of these methods proves to be more suitable. In addition, those who do not trust themselves with the task alone can also take advantage of the support of a professional service provider, such as the company for de-cluttering from Hanover.

The step-by-step method

Ideally, the step-by-step method is suitable for all people who feel a slight overwhelm when it comes to clearing out. Often, these also feel a certain fear of finally parting with items.

Basically, the step-by-step method is based on doing a different small part of the overall task each day. This way, decluttering shows up right away as much less overwhelming. Each day, you should plan to spend around 15 to 30 minutes clearing out individual categories of items, such as clothes, books or kitchen utensils. The process is particularly easy if you start with things that do not have too much personal significance.

However, this variant of decluttering is suitable mainly when an entire household is being liquidated. Otherwise, decluttering this way would take a lot of time.

The all-at-once method

The opposite of the step-by-step method is to do the entire decluttering in one act.

The first step is to provide the necessary utensils for the decluttering, such as enough garbage bags, boxes and maybe even a container. After that, you can get to work, proceeding room by room.

It makes sense to assign the items in the different rooms to certain categories, namely “dispose”, “sell” and “give away”. Once a room has been successfully decluttered, the discarded items should be removed from the home as soon as possible, otherwise there is a risk that they will be kept longer than necessary, taking up valuable space.

This method impresses with the great advantage that the apartment can be cleaned out in just one action – this proves to be particularly time-effective. However, for this type of decluttering must be quite a whole or perhaps two days to be calculated.

The best tips for successful decluttering

Besides these two basic methods, however, a few more tips can be formulated for successful decluttering.

For example, when it comes to the ideal time for decluttering, it must be stated right away that there is hardly any such time. However, if the personal well-being is significantly impaired by the numerous unnecessary items in the home, one should not wait any longer with the clearing out. The same also applies if too much valuable space in the home is taken up by unnecessary items, which could be used much more sensibly without them.

Clearing out the four walls at home basically gives a feeling of liberation – however, the work also proves to be quite exhausting. For this reason, it is important not to want too much at once. In order to keep an overview during the decluttering process, it makes sense to start with a single room or even just one drawer. In this way, visible successes can be quickly recorded, so that the motivation to continue is maintained.
