If you enjoy wine, you may have considered buying a wine cooler (translated to Dutch: wijnkoelkast), but there is one problem: you are on a diet. Is it possible to drink wine while you are on a diet? 

Of course, you don’t have to give up alcohol when you are losing weight. We have some tips for you on staying healthy while still drinking wine from your small wine cooler (translated to Dutch: kleine wijnkoelkast). 

  1. Check the calories in wine 

Most wine has 99-175 calories per glass. The calories depend on the wine you sip. White wine and sparkling wine tend to be lower in alcohol. Also European wines contain fewer calories than wines from other parts of the world. Choose wisely. 

  1. Reducing your intake

Some people drink two glasses of wine each night. Cut it down to one. Another option: order smaller drinks. For example, instead of your usual large glass of red wine ask the bartender for a sparkling wine in a smaller glass. 

  1. Avoid eating fast food 

If you are trying to lose weight it is important to avoid fast food while you’re drinking wine. While you’re drinking wine fat will not be burned off like normally. This is because your body has energy from the alcoholic calories. However, drinking alcohol makes you hungry. Researchers discovered that alcohol switches the brain into starvation mode. If you’re trying to watch your weight eat for example popcorn. 

  1. Keep hydrated 

It’s important to drink water when you drink wine. It will help to reduce a headache the next morning. Alcohol has an dehydrating effect. But who drinks water on a party? Wearing a shopper or a sport bh on a party is also ridiculous. Drink water before leaving the house an drink water when you get home. No one notice. 

  1. Sleep well 

Everybody knows that getting a good night’s sleep is important for mind and body. It gives the body time to recover. Drinking wine makes you feel sleepy, but it disrupts your REM sleep cycle. This means you get less quality sleep. If you want to lose weight it is important to stop drinking two hours before you go to bed.
