How to Clear CompTIA A+ Certification in First Attempt

As a technology instructor and cybersecurity expert, I am frequently asked, “How do I get started in IT?” My answer is always the same: CompTIA’s A+ certification is the first step. I started there myself when I changed careers to IT and cybersecurity many years ago. Why am I recommending the A+ certification? There are numerous reasons for this.

First, A+ is awarded by a reputable certification body. In 1992, CompTIA began offering A+ as its first certification. Since then, A+ has remained the cornerstone of CompTIA’s certification line, which also includes Network+ and Security+. A number of companies, including Dell, Intel, and HP, recognise the importance of A+ certification.

Second, A+ covers a variety of subjects. You gain a basic understanding of all aspects of computing, including hardware, software, troubleshooting, networking, and security. And it’s vendor-neutral. Regardless of where your career takes you, a foundational understanding of PCs, networking, and security is an excellent stepping stone to more specialised and vendor-specific certifications.

Third, hiring managers may require the A+ certification in order to consider you for entry-level IT positions. A+ certification is advantageous for positions such as Service Desk Analyst, Help Desk Technician, and Field Service Technician, among others.

Define CompTIA A+ Certification

A+ is a certification designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of personal computers (PC), including hardware, operating systems, networking, troubleshooting, security, and more. As a foundational certification, it enables you to transition into a variety of technology-related positions. Even if you are not interested in pursuing a career in PC repair, you can still benefit from understanding how PCs operate.

A+ has been designed to demonstrate your expertise not only through knowledge but also through practical application. Each exam contains a number of performance-based and scenario-based multiple-choice questions designed to assess your ability to apply your knowledge in real-world situations. CompTIA is proud that A+ is performance-based and vendor-neutral.

How To Get Certified CompTIA A+ Certified

1st Step to acquire training: CompTIA A+ Certification: A Comprehensive Approach is the official training curriculum. There are also books, practise exams, and videos, some of which are free and some of which are available for a reasonable price, that can help you prepare for the two A+ exams.

2nd Step to Prepare for Exam: It is not sufficient to simply attend class or read a book. You must incorporate this information into yourself. To answer the performance-based and scenario-based questions on the examinations, you will be required to draw from your entire body of knowledge. Here are some recommendations for studying for the A+ exams:

  • Study with a buddy: According to studies, engaging in discussions and conversations about a topic makes it feel more personal and helps you remember it longer.
  • Perform practise tests: Exams for certification are tests. You’ll perform better on the exam if you study for it. There are numerous excellent providers of high-quality practise exams that can aid your study efforts. However, be wary of test dump sites. These websites provide practise tests with actual test questions. This is unethical and a direct violation of CompTIA’s certification terms and conditions. Stick with approved CompTIA business partners when purchasing study materials.
  • Put things in writing: Writing with a pen or pencil is an even more effective memory aid than typing. The muscle memory involved in writing down concepts will cement this new information more quickly in your brain and aid in recalling it later.
  • Use flashcards: Flashcards are an excellent tool for reinforcing, among other things, acronyms, port numbers, definitions, and lists.
  • Do not wait too long to take the exams following training: You may not feel prepared, but if you have put the time and effort into studying, you will likely do well.

3rd Step involves acquiring vouchers: You may have received your vouchers in a training class, as part of a study guide bundle, from your employer, or out of your own pocket. Regardless of how you obtained them, these coupon codes are exceedingly valuable. Consider it cash. It is not tied to your identity, so anyone can use it. Most coupons are valid for one year. Do let the coupon to expire.

4th Step Involves Registration: Registration is conducted at, the website of CompTIA’s testing partner. I suggest that you register for your exams weeks in advance. There are numerous advantages to this. First, you can use this schedule to motivate yourself to continue studying. There is a deadline. Second, depending on the testing centre you’ve selected for your exam, seating may be limited. Or, if you have selected an online examination, there are only a few seats available per time slot. If you want to choose the best time and date for you, you should act quickly while there are still many open slots. If not, they may book up.

Thirdly, those who require accommodations due to a disability must submit an online request several weeks prior to the test date so that the request can be approved and the accommodations can be prepared.

You may reschedule or cancel your exam without penalty until 24 hours before your scheduled exam time or until your exam voucher expires, whichever occurs earlier. Within 24 hours, cancellations and reschedules are not permitted. If you must reschedule your exam, don’t wait until the last minute.

The fifth step is to take the test. Each exam contains up to 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions, and you have 90 minutes to complete it. If this will be your first certification exam, you can anticipate the following:

  • Don’t be late: There may be unforeseen delays, so you should not be late. If you’re more than 15 minutes late, they may cancel your exam and invalidate your voucher.
  • Bring two (2) IDs with you: One of these forms must be issued by the government and contain your photo and name. The counterpart must bear your signature (a signed credit card does count for this second ID).
  • Items permitted within the exam room: The only permitted items in the exam room are unwrapped “comfort aids” such as unwrapped cough drops and water (clear bottle). Your phone should remain in the vehicle. During the exam, your other personal belongings will be stored in a locker, and you will keep the key. All personal belongings must be out of reach and out of sight during an online examination.
  • Read the Questions Carefully: Carefully read every word of each question during the exam. There are no trick questions, but the particulars are significant. If you are uncertain, you should not waste too much time. Simply select a response, flag the question for later review, and proceed. There are no penalties for incorrect answers. But if you guess, you at least have a chance of getting it right. And you can always return to these questions to review them again if you have time remaining.
  • Your score report: After completing an examination, you will be asked to complete a brief survey. The survey’s demographic questions are optional. Following this, your provisional score will be displayed on-screen, and a score report will be printed for you to take with you. This score report lists each exam objective for which you received at least one incorrect answer. If you passed, this section is merely informative. If you failed, you should study the following topics. Most individuals who fail on their first attempt pass on their second.
