Creating a blog, sharing your knowledge with others, and making money doing it is one of the very best ways to make money online. I know people who have actually quit their steady 9 to 5 and now make more money blogging than they ever did before at their regular job.

This article is going to show you how to create a blog, find a great niche, and then monetize the blog so you can be your own boss. Let’s get started.

What are the steps to creating a blog?

There are many different blogging platforms you can choose but I recommend using the popular WordPress. For instance, 30% of all websites on the internet are powered by WordPress. They are a very trusted platform.

WordPress offers thousands of free templates, or themes, that you can choose from and it is pretty easy to get started.

Secondly, if you plan to monetize your blog in the future I recommend that you self-host. I will recommend you use a reliable hosting service like Bluehost. They offer a shared plan that you can get today for just $2.95 per month.

One of the biggest benefits of using a host is that it can handle larger traffic flow to your blog. For instance, if your blog takes off it will bring in large amounts of reader traffic and you need a host that won’t crash on you when you need it the most.

Furthermore, hosting offers more flexibility to expand and it will be faster compared to some of the free plans. One of Googles biggest rankers is site speed so don’t settle for free and slow.

How do I find the right niche to blog about?

There really is no right or wrong answer here. What are you passionate about? What are you an expert in?

I recommend that you ask yourself those questions and begin sketching some ideas out on paper. Furthermore, choose something you can help people with.

Some of the most popular niches for blogging include healthy living, personal finance, relationships, and making money just to name a few.

How do I get traffic to my blog?

This is important because it will take Google months to get your blog and articles indexed and beginning to rank.

Step 1- Be consistent with writing new and engaging blog content. Your goal should be to educate your readers and at the same time solve problems they may have. Furthermore, try to post new content at least one time per week.

Step 2- Use proper SEO with all of your posts. Make sure you are using a new focus keyword for each post and don’t be afraid to add in a couple of secondary keywords into the content.  Also, make sure your title and description tags are complete.

Step 3- Share all of your posts on social media. If you know what social media platforms your readers hang-out in then focus on those but I would say the trusty three are Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Step 4- Be patient. It can take several months to get indexed and longer to begin to rank. Keep writing, keep providing value, keep sharing, and be patient.

How do I make money with my blog?

My advice is to choose the niche and begin spitting out valuable content on a consistent basis. Try to write articles of at least 1000 words.

The traffic will begin to build and when it does there are two main ways to make money with your blog.

The first is with affiliate marketing. Essentially, you become an affiliate for a product or service you like that is also related to your niche and you promote it within your content using links.

The second most effective way is to place ads on your blog using a service like Google Adsense. This will require you to have a pretty decent amount of traffic for it to be effective. Furthermore, Adsense is an absolute goldmine if you have the traffic.

If you want to share your expertise, help others, and make money then blogging is the way to go and the option I recommend the most. It’s easy to set-up and you can get started with hosting and WordPress for less than $50 for the entire year.
