Rio Ferdinand: Axel Tuanzebe needs to be rewarded

In the Champions League opener Premier League giants Manchester United played against Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, a full 90 minutes with the English club coming out on top.

While Red Devils were formidable in the match, one of the most outstanding players is Axel Tuanzebe, a defender, who played a pivotal role in keeping out the Parisians on Tuesday night, as high roller online casinos provided odds regarding the match.

His performance in the Champions League game caught the eye of United legend Rio Ferdinand, who claims that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to “reward performances like that”.

This is the Red Devils first game at the Parc des Princes ever since their comeback against the French team during the 2018/19 Champions League campaign in the round of 16.

The English club came out on top once again after taking the lead from a spot-kick score by Bruno Fernandes and a late goal from Marcus Rashford to mark their return to Champions League football since 2018.

An own goal committed by French attacker Anthony Martial gave PSG a little hope of ending the game in their favor, but they continued to struggle in the final third as Solskjaer’s team produced more goal attempts proving to be more deadly in the attack.

Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Angel Di Maria were unable to break through the Manchester United defense with Tuanzebe dropping a man-of-the-match display all through the match despite the game being his first start in 10 months. His performance sparked word of admiration from United legend Ferdinand, who was excited to watch the young defender get past his injury trials on the big stage, with online casino new zealand having placed attractive odds on his performance for the night.

Ferdinand was asked if the Congo-born defender had made it impossible for Solksjaer to leave him out in the club’s next big match against Chelsea in the Premier League, he said: “Yes. Ole has just said it’s two of the best two strikers in the world (Mbappe and Neymar), he snuffed out danger many a time today.

“You have to reward performances like that. He’s had a hard time with injuries – the first game in 10 months – to come in and play like that, from out of the cold, you deserve to be rewarded.

“But Ole is the man to make that decision.”

He continued: “This is where Man United have struggled in the last six to 12 months, in them areas chasing players down the channels, they can’t stay with them and then obviously that opens up the back four or back three.

“But he was smelling danger.”

Tuanzebe graduated from Manchester United Academy and has formerly enjoyed a loan spell to Aston Villa before returning to Old Trafford for the 2019/20 campaign.
