Medical Marijuana has many different chemical components also referred to as cannabinoids and one of them is cannabidiol (CBD). And unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive. That is, it doesn’t change the state of the mind of the person using it. CBD also has antibacterial and anti-proliferative properties.

There is some confusion between Hemp and cannabis. Hemp is no different from the cannabis plant, it is just a term used to differentiate certain strains of cannabis plants. Hemp plants are just cannabis strains that happen to produce very low levels of THC, and subsequently, it is legally cultivated in many countries around the world.

Legality of CBD

Although there is still a lot of stigma due to the fact that many people tend to mistake CBD for THC. CBD is legal in the Twenty nine (29) US states (Washington DC included) where recreational or medicinal marijuana is legal. Seventeen additional states have specific laws for CBD. They include:

Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. And others have no provisions for cannabis. There is a lot of misconception about CBD, perhaps because its chemical properties are poorly understood and also because of its close resemblance to THC.

However, despite the numerous huddles on the issue of cannabis and its cannabinoids substances there continue to be positive strides in the push for the legalization of cannabis. Canada has opened the doorway by legalizing it.
