Testosterone: An Overview of the Sex Hormone

Testosterone is the most important male sex hormone. Among other things, it is responsible for the control of sexual functions. Five percent of the hormone is produced in the adrenal glands and 95 percent in the testicles. Women also have testosterone, but in much lower concentrations.

In simple terms, a high testosterone level in men ensures a high libido, while less testosterone reduces sexual desire. For a fulfilling sex life, testosterone is thus of extremely great importance.

Therefore, various means are available on the market with which the testosterone level can be increased. In this context, interested parties should, for example, take a look at the experience with Testo Prime. The following article provides an interesting overview of the male sex hormone.

Particularly high testosterone levels in youth

As a rule, young men have particularly high levels of testosterone. Production of the hormone peaks at the age of 20.  From this point on, testosterone levels in the blood gradually decrease. As a result, libido steadily decreases, even if this is hardly noticeable in the first few years. Muscle strength also decreases due to the lower testosterone levels.

This development cannot be reversed, as the aging process of the hormone balance already begins at the age of about 17. However, large individual differences between men can be observed. Some of them still have testosterone levels within the normal range even at an advanced age. This also means that they are still capable of procreation for a long time.

In contrast, other men show clear signs of testosterone deficiency as early as around the age of 30. In part, these differences can be attributed to genetics, but general lifestyle also affects testosterone levels.

Highest testosterone levels in the morning

Fluctuations can also be found in testosterone levels during the course of the day. Values are at their lowest between 6 and 10 p.m., and highest in the early morning hours. A morning erection often expresses these peak levels.

However, this natural cycle is contradicted by the conventional daily routine of modern society. The abundance of testosterone can hardly be exploited at 8 o’clock in the morning. As a result, 90 percent of couples do not become sexually active until the evening, although there is often not actually much desire at this time due to the low hormone levels.

Lack of testosterone

There are various causes that can lead to a testosterone deficiency. In a majority of cases, it can be attributed to the natural signs of aging. However, according to American studies, almost half of men between the ages of 50 and 60 suffer from a testosterone deficiency that requires treatment.

However, hormone production is also influenced by general lifestyle and the use of a testosterone booster. Thus, the production of testosterone is reduced by alcohol consumption, permanent stress, unhealthy diet, lack of exercise and overweight. In order to regain more masculinity, men should therefore review their lifestyle.

In addition, however, there are also some diseases that often occur due to age and can also result in a lack of testosterone. In this context, diseases of the testicles or a loss of the testicles should be mentioned in particular.
